Gujarat, Odisha clash halted due to concerns over pitch

The Ranji Trophy 2016-17 quarterfinal clash between Gujarat and Odisha at the Sawai Man Singh stadium in Jaipur was halted after the pitch misbehaved on the opening day of the fixture on Friday (December 23).

Parthiv Patel, the Gujarat captain, was hit after a ball bounced awkwardly from good length. Unhappy with the misbehaving track, Parthiv complained to the on-field umpires - Yeshwant Barde and CK Nandan - before the players walked off the field.

"It was Parthiv who complained about the pitch after getting struck. They are trying to settle it using a light roller," a Rajasthan Cricket Association.

The umpires were seen having a discussion and pointing to a patch from where the delivery shot up. Parthiv had played and missed a couple of times, some balls kept low and the edges didn't carry before he was hit in the arm during the course of the morning session. Early lunch was taken with Gujarat ending the first session on 39 for 2.
