Kuldeep Yadav replaces injured Amit Mishra for Bangladesh Test

Kuldeep Yadav, the Chinaman bowler, has replaced Amit Mishra in the Indian squad for the one-off Test against Bangladesh starting February 9. This is a maiden Test call-up for the 22-year-old from Uttar Pradesh.

Mishra, who was a part of the 16-member squad initially, was not present during the practice session in Hyderabad on Tuesday (February 7). A media release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the legspinner had sustained a knee injury on the field against England during the third and final Twenty20 International (T20I) in Bengaluru on February 1.

Mishra has been advised rest and is due to undergo further medical examination. While he wasn't included in the XI for the first T20I, Mishra went on to play a crucial role in the next two matches to help India seal the series. The legspinner however, has found opportunities hard to come by in the longest format after losing his spot to Jayant Yadav in the playing XI.

Jayant's hamstring injury gave Mishra another opportunity in the final Test against England in Chennai but he managed to pick up only two wickets in the match. Kuldeep, who is yet to make his debut for India, played the two-day practice game for India A against Bangladesh in Hyderabad and hence joined the senior squad directly at the match venue. He picked up just one wicket in the first innings and took two wickets in two balls in the second innings to get rid of Soumya Sarkar and Mominul Haque.
