Alex Doolan suffers concussion after blow to jaw
Alex Doolan, the Tasmania batsman, was diagnosed with a concussion after being struck on the jaw by a short delivery from Jason Behrendorff late in the final session on Friday (November 18).
Doolan, despite suffering the blow, managed to bat until stumps on Day 2 of the Sheffield Shield clash against Western Australia. However, on Saturday (November 19), he did not take the field, retiring hurt on his overnight score of 202, and it was later reported that the 30-year-old suffered a delayed concussion.
Doolan is the second player featuring in this game to suffer a concussion. Earlier in the game, on Day 1, Western Australia captain Adam Voges suffered a concussion after being struck on the helmet by a bouncer from Cameron Stevenson.
The 37-year-old was subsequently ruled out of the Sheffield Shield game. Even Voges is fully fit come November 24, he is unlikely to feature in the day-night Test between Australia and South Africa in Adelaide considering his poor form.
