Yorkshire Seal Massive 228-Run Win Over Durham
Yorkshire v Durham
Yorkshire cruised to a massive 228-run win over Durham on the fourth and final day of their Division 1 county clash in Headingley on Friday (September 9). Ryan Sidebottom and Jack Brooks shared seven wickets between them to shoot down Durham for 192 after Yorkshire set them a target of 421.
Starting the day on 39 for 3, the Durham batting line-up gave up quickly as the team was left reeling at 63 for 6. Graham Clark (25) and Michael Richardson (33) resisted for a while to score 49 for the seventh wicket.
Ryan Pringle struck an unbeaten 66-ball 57 but with the top order contributing next to nothing, all he did was delay the inevitable loss.
Brief scores: Durham 265 and 192 (Ryan Pringle 57*; Ryan Sidebottom 4-34, Jack Brooks 3-55) lost to Yorkshire 460 and 225/2 decl. (Adam Lyth 114, Alex Lees 88; Ryan Pringle 2-69) by 228 runs.
Nottinghamshire v Middlesex
John Simpson (58 not out) and James Franklin (54 not out) carried Middlesex to a comfortable five-wicket win over Nottinghamshire on the final day at Trent Bridge.
Chasing 235, Middlesex got to the target in 74 overs after the Simpson-Franklin collaboration scored an unbeaten 89 for the sixth wicket.
Starting the day on 48 for 3, Nick Compton (63) kept the visitors afloat with a 171-ball 63 before he was run out by Jake Libby. Jake Ball picked up 4 for 54 but with both Franklin and Simpson determined to see the team cross the line, Nottinghamshire were forced to come second in the clash.
Brief scores: Middlesex 247 and 235/5 (Nick Compton 63; Jake Ball 4-54) beat Nottinghamshire 241 and 240 (Steven Mullaney 64, Samit Patel 36; Ollie Rayner 4/83, Steven Finn 3-57) by five wickets.
Surrey v Hampshire
Rain forced an early end to the clash between Surrey and Hampshire on the final day with Kumar Sangakkara (84 not out) helping the former earn a draw at The Oval.
Surrey started the day on 23 for no loss after conceding a lead of 253 but lost Rory Burns (18) soon after the start of play. Dominic Sibley (44) collaborated with Sangakkara to score 42 for the second wicket before falling to Brad Wheal.
Sangakkara found good support in Arun Harinath (57) as the duo stitched a 100-run stand to fight the Hampshire challenge. However, rain snatched a chance to close out the game for Hampshire as both teams had to settle for a draw.
Brief scores: Surrey 329 and 248/3 (Kumar Sangakkara 84*) drew with Hampshire 582 (Sean Ervine 158*, Tom Alsop 117, Ryan McLaren 100; Mark Footitt 6-161).
