Leicestershire have signed Michael Carberry on a loan deal from Hampshire, and will be able to avail his services for the final four Championship matches of the 2017 season, the English county announced on Friday (August 25).

The next round of Championship matches begins on Monday. Leicestershire, who are stuck right at the bottom of Division Two without a single win this season, will be hosted by Kent. Leicestershire head coach Pierre de Bruyn welcomed Carberry's inclusion as an opportunity to utilise his experience.

"It's great to have Michael on board with us ahead of the Kent game," de Bruyn said. "Michael has an impressive career record in county cricket and offers lots of experience having also represented England."

Interestingly, there is a provision in the deal which allows Carberry to return to Hampshire for the Natwest T20 Blast Finals Day on Saturday next week, after the match against Kent. Following that, Carberry will return to Leicestershire again till the end of the season.

Hampshire Director of Cricket Giles White wished Carberry the best of luck for his new endeavour. "Michael is obviously keen to play regular red ball cricket and will have this opportunity at Leicester. We wish him well and look forward to welcoming him back for Finals Day," White said.

Carberry has played for England before, featuring in six Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I. He has also been a prolific scorer at the first-class level with an aggregate of 13,616 runs in 200 matches. He has been in good form in the Natwest T20 Blast this year, scoring at an average of 35.16 and a strike-rate of 150.71.
