Twin Tons Put Leicestershire on Top
Mark Cosgrove and Colin Ackermann struck centuries for Leicestershire on the first day of their County Championship Division Two against Derbyshire at the County Ground on Thursday (May 25). The twin centuries helped Leicestershire post 415 for 3 in the 96 overs of play possible.
Put in to bat, Paul Horton (20) and Harry Dearden (46) made a cautious start before Tony Palladino had the former caught behind in the 16th over after the duo had scored 37. Dearden and Ackermann then stitched a 64-run for the second wicket to take the score past the 100-run mark.
Dearden though failed to capitalise on his start and was dismissed for 46. At 101 for 2, Derbyshire would have been happy with the way the game was progressing. However, little went their way after that as Ackermann and Cosgrove got together to score 175 more for the third wicket in less than 40 overs.
Ackermann was dismissed by Jeevan Mendis for 118 but Cosgrove and Ned Eckersley (77 not out) made sure there was no further damage as Leicestershire crossed the 400-run mark to take ascendancy in the game on the first day itself.
