Biju George Appointed Fielding Coach of India Women Teams
George had earlier served as the fielding coach for the Indian Under-19 team and also had a stint with Kuwait as the head coach, apart from acting as a talent scout for Kolkata Knight Riders.
George's appointment comes more than a month after Purnina Rau and Suman Sharma were relieved of their positions as head coach and assistant coach of the Women's team respectively. Tushar Arothe, the former Baroda batsman, who took over from Rau, didn't have an assistant coach during the quadrangular series in South Africa that India were part of.
George is likely to join the team when the Mithali Raj-led side will assemble for a five-day preparatory camp in Mumbai from June 6 ahead of the ICC Women's World Cup 2017, which will be held in England and Wales fromJune 24.
The team will leave for the UK a day after the training camp gets over and will be there one week before the official warm-up games, during which time they will practice at the Loughborough MCC University and play against England Women in a practice match on June 13. The team will then head for Derby where they will have a camp ahead of their warm-up matches against New Zealand Women (June 19) and Sri Lanka Women (June 21).
India will face hosts England in their opening World Cup encounter on June 24 in Derby. They'll travel to Taunton for their second match against West Indies on June 29, followed by two matches in Derby - against Pakistan (July 2) and Sri Lanka (July 5). This will be followed by a trip to Leicester to take on South Africa (July 8), followed by their match against Australia in Bristol on July 12. India will return to Derby for their last league game, which will be against New Zealand on July 15.
