Brad Hodge keen to play BBL 07
Brad Hodge, Adelaide Strikers' skipper, on Monday (January 16) revealed that he is keen on playing the next edition of the Big Bash League. Hodge, who will be turning 43 during the course of BBL 07, believes that he can still make a valuable contribution. "I'm gonna play, where that's at who knows?" Hodge said following Adelaide Strikers' loss to Melbourne Renegades in Adelaide.
"We just have to wait and see," Hodge said. "I feel like I'm contributing and contributing well. We've seen the quality of (Brad) Hogg, and I think I've played pretty well this year. I love it."
He is the second highest run-getter for his side this season and fourth overall with 247 runs at an impressive average of 41.16 to go with a strike rate of 132.79.
Hodge's future with the Strikers isn't clear as his contract runs out at the end of this season. Strikers are currently the only side who are out of contention to reach the semifinals and that might tempt the management to look ahead to the future.
Even though the veteran is hopeful of resuming his playing career with the Adelaide outfit, he is willing to switch sides if he isn't offered a contract extension. "I would like to stay here (with Adelaide), this is a great place to play cricket and I feel I contribute well and teach the guys how to get better," he stated.
"And there will be guys that learn from this experience, over the past couple of years I've really helped a few people like Travis Head and Alex Ross and there are a few more who are going to come through, whom we need to teach. That aspect of it is really cool, but who knows where you end up. I must say I'm out of contract so we'll find out soon enough."
Hodge, who is currently coaching Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League, is also willing to venture into commentary if his plans to keep playing fails to materialise. "Who knows what the future holds, I didn't think I would play on this year and I was only going to play on if I had a good season," he noted.
"I've ticked that box, so what happens next year and where I end up is a different matter and commentary - there's all sorts of things in life that intrigue me. I just have to find out what lies ahead."
