Scorchers fined after breaching salary cap in BBL 2015

The Perth Scorchers have been fined $5000 (AUD) after breaching the salary cap during last season's Big Bash League.

Cricket Australia (CA) announced on Monday (November 14) that the Scorchers breached the allowable team retainer pool of $1.3 million by $5000. The Scorchers have been fined the minimum penalty of $150,000, with $145,000 suspended pending no further breach of the team retainer pool rules during the next five years.

Iain Roy, CA head of integrity, said the Scorchers self-reported the salary cap breach to CA. "Following a thorough investigation, we understand that this was not a purposeful breaching of the rules by the Perth Scorchers, and this has been taken into account for the purpose of fixing an appropriate penalty," he said. "We do however take a proactive, zero-tolerance approach to maintaining the integrity of our sport and this includes any breaches of salary caps in the BBL.

"This serves as a timely reminder that the integrity of our game is a high priority and we won't accept this being compromised," he added.
