Live Cricket Score of India vs England, 3rd Test, Day 2 at Mohali

Parthiv, the opener:

Parthiv has opened in Tests twice before:

0 vs New Zealand, Hamilton, 2002

69 v Pakistan, Rawalpindi, 2004 (His highest Test score)

Parthiv walks out to open:

Wriddhiman Saha's injury meant that Parthiv Patel earned a Test call-up after eight long years. Here he is, out to open the innings along side the regular, Murali Vijay.

Spare a thought for Parthiv who would know that the road ahead is not too long but still needs to keep himself motivated. A battle within a battle.

Stats Buzz: Our number crunching machine, Deepu Narayanan is here and he shoots this:The last time England won a Test in India after scoring 283 or fewer in the first innings, was in 1977 - 262 in Chennai (England won by 200 runs). Well, England would want to draw some inspiration from that but... that match took place even before anyone of the current England squad was born

Review: Out!!

Shami hits Gareth Batty on the front pad, the Indians go up in unison and umpire Erasmus doesn't waste any time to raise the finger. But, routine as it is, the English spinner asks for a review but in vain. All Reds on the ball-tracking technology. Decision upheld.

England tail doesn't wag more than 23 balls.

First Blood:

We might still be recovering from our sleepiness but Shami is up and running. Bolt upright seam on release, on landing, after finding the edge, a delight to the pacer's eyes. Rashid gone, not delightful for an English fan.

Spin To Begin:

Be it four overs or forty overs, Ravindra Jadeja doesn't mind rolling his arm over when the captain asks him to. Here he comes to begin the proceedings on Day 2.

Alert: If you are still sleepy on a Sunday, that over might have gone unnoticed. You blink and you miss!

Buck up, Mohali: Hopefully, the Sunday crowd is going to be bigger and louderrr...

The 22-yard Story:

Former India Test opener, Sunil Gavaskar reckons that England made the pitch look worse than it actually is. The cracks that he suspected would open up soon, haven't yet but the possibility is not too far away. There are still runs to be made on this wicket and India would take heart from that.

A quick tip for India on how to succeed would be to avoid all that England did on Day 1 - poor shot selection.

Build Up:

Hello and a warm welcome, folks! Cliched it is but we can hope for a Super Sunday today. If you thought the opening day's action was entertaining, today is going to be even more fun with India expected to bat sometime later today. The decibel levels might go up as well with more people turning at the venue on a holiday.

Earlier in the game, it was a good toss to win for England, till they squandered it, courtesy some poor shot selection. Things could have been even worse had India latched onto the chances that came their way. Jonny Bairstow rose to the occasion with a fighting 89 but regular wickets never allowed England to get up from the mat.

On the the other hand, the hosts would be chuffed about their bowling performances, especially with Umesh Yadav who bowled with a lot of heart throughout the day. Kohli would look at those dropped opportunities with a lot of disappointment but while he has to get on with the game, he will not ignore any of it.

Anyway, today is a fresh day and the hosts would want to pick up the remaining two wickets quickly to restrict the tourists within 300. How quickly does that happen, if at all it does? We shall get to know that soon. By the way, I am Shirshendu Roy and I'll be with you throughout the course of action. You can join me as well with your thoughts by tweeting to @Shirsh9
