Younis Khan Miss Pakistan's Maiden Pink Ball Test

Experienced Pakistan batsman Younis Khan will reportedly miss the first Test against West Indies as he is recovering from dengue fever. ESPNCricinfo quoted a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman as saying that the 38-year-old will not be considered for selection for the opening five-day encounter in Dubai from October 13 as doctors have advised him rest for 10 days in order to fully recover from his illness.

"Younis has informed chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq that he won't able to play the first Test. The selectors are yet to announce the squad, but it's confirmed that Younis will not take part in the opening game in Dubai. He asked for rest to be fully fit before his national selection since he has recently recovered from dengue," a PCB official told the website on Thursday (October 6).

Younis, who had high fever last month, was treated for the mosquito-borne disease in a Karachi hospital and couldn't take part in the opening round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Pakistan's first-class competition. The veteran batsman is expected to be available for selection for the second Test, which starts from October 21 in Abu Dhabi.

Pakistan leading run-scorer in Test cricket, Younis last missed a Test match in May 2011, which was also against West Indies. Younis's absence for the opening game means that he won't be part of a historic Test as the Test will mark Pakistan's maiden international five-day outing under lights with the pink ball.

Pakistan, who have already clean-swept the three-match Twenty20 International series and the One-Day International series will face West Indies in a three-match Test series, the last of which will be played in Sharjah from October 30.
