Joel Paris out of action till December
Australia's ravaged pace stocks have suffered another blow with Joel Paris, the talented Western Australian left-armer, ruled out of action until the Big Bash League (BBL) in December after damaging a tendon in his left quadricep.
The Western Warriors announced on Monday (October 10) that the 23-year-old's long injury lay-off has been extended by two months after Paris suffered another leg injury at training last week.
Paris, who played two One-Day internationals for Australia last summer, is not expected to be available until December but the injury is the opposite leg to the quad issue that saw him miss a chunk of the 2014-15 summer.
Paris has not played since last summer after he was ruled out of the Indian Premier League with a shin injury and the latest setback stalls one of Australian cricket's most exciting prospects. Paris only made his first-class debut last November and enjoyed a watershed season with 35 wickets at 19.57 in six matches and had an astounding strike rate of a wicket every 36.4 balls.
Paris's sharp and swinging bowling delivered at a great height has predictably drawn comparisons with Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson. In a meteoric rise, he played two ODIs against India in January and his sole wicket in those matches was Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan at the Gabba.
"It was a proud moment for me because I had done a lot of work behind the scenes for the last 24 months," Paris told Cricbuzz in April. "If I keep working hard and performing, then opportunities will come my way."
Last month, WA announced Paris's expected return for the Matador Cup, but now Australian fans will have to wait a while longer for his comeback. The Scorchers' BBL campaign starts against the Adelaide Strikers on December 23.
