India finished the formalities of Day 5 in the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur, winning the match by 197 runs and taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Luke Ronchi (80) and Mitchell Santner (71) provided stiff resistance in the first hour before Ravindra Jadeja provided the breakthrough. R Ashwin and Mohammed Shami went through the New Zealand tail to wrap up New Zealand's second innings for 236. Jadeja was adjudged Man of the match for his unbeaten knocks of 42 and 50 and six wickets in the match.
