Imalka Mendis gets maiden call-up for Australia series

Inoshi Priyadharshani and Imalka Mendis were called up to the Sri Lanka Women's squad for the upcoming four-match home series against Australia. Chamari Polgampla and Inoka Ranaweera also found a place in the 14-woman list.

Priyadharshini has played a couple of Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for Sri Lanka, but it was way back in 2014 against South Africa Women. Meanwhile, Mendis earned her maiden call-up after consistent performances for the Sri Lanka A side.

Chamari Atapattu took over the reins from Shashikala Siriwardene, who injured her hamstring during the World T20 2016, and has since held onto the position, while wicketkeeper, Prasadini Weerakody was named as Atapattu's deputy.

Polgampla and Ranaweera make their comeback after missing the India tour early this year. They last played international cricket when they were involved in a One-Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand in October last year.

The series between Australia Women and Sri Lanka Women has Women's Championship points at stake in three of the four games. After the four ODIs, there will be a one-off T20I. The first game of the tour begins on Sunday (September 18) at Dambulla.
