BCCI adds 17 more curators for new Ranji season

In their endeavour to conduct all Ranji Trophy matches at neutral venues successfully, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has increased the number of members in the grounds and pitches committee from the existing 10 to 27 on Monday (September 26). With the BCCI increasing the number of teams in the elite domestic competition to 28 (Chhattisgarh being the new entrant), the board has gone for a bigger team of curators to prepare the grounds for the season.

BCCI adds 17 more curators for new Ranji season

If the BCCI had stuck to the 10 member committee, it would have been practically impossible to conduct matches on sporting pitches due to the paucity of staff. Currently, the committee has five senior members headed by Daljit Singh while the other five are co-opted members. The 17 added to the list are certified curators with a good track record.

The curators will give top priority to their home game first before working on the other venues. "A roster has been prepared and already distributed to all the curators. The board is hopeful that the neutral venue concept will work well," a top BCCI official told TOI. Last year, the BCCI conducted 115 Ranji games. With India scheduled to play 12 more Test matches at home, the board has also shortlisted 40 venues for the Ranji Trophy.
