After six defeats on the trot, St Lucia Stars finally got a point against their name as Game 18 of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League, against hosts St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, was washed out due to incessant rain on Saturday (August 19). However, it also meant that Stars became the first team to bow out of the competition with six successive losses marring their campaign right from the start.

Put in to bat first, Stars were 46 for 1 after 8.1 overs in just about half an hour of play before rain made its first appearance. Frequent showers kept players off the field and play was eventually called off after nearly three hours of futile wait.

In the little play that was possible, Patriots spinners did well to restrict bottom-placed Stars. The home side started with spin from both ends and the powerplay yielded only 33 runs, for the loss of opener Johnson Charles. Stars were 27 after four overs when the pressure of a lowly run rate got the better of Charles. The batsman failed in his attempt to lift a tossed up delivery over the bowler's head and the long-off fielder, Mohammad Nabi, grabbed the chance to give Fabian Allen the only wicket that fell.

Samuel Badree though didn't have a wicket to show for his tight bowling but he finished with figures of 0 for 17 in his four overs quota.

In-form Andre Fletcher did the bulk of scoring, remaining unbeaten on 27 off 28 and his new captain, Shane Watson, was on 12 when the players were forced off field.

The one point helped Patriots retain the second slot in the points table, one clear of Jamaica Tallawahs and three behind toppers Trinbago Knight Riders.
